Investment casting is a final forming technique. The manufactured cast is precious and complicated, near to the final structure, and can be directly used without machining or just needing a little machining.

　　Investment casting is developed from ancient dewax casting, dated back to over 4000 years before, which was firstly applied in China, Egypt and India. At then, the people used this technology to cast various products with fine pattern and letters on the surface, such as household utensils and ancient bronze objects.

　　Modern investment casting was put into practice in the 1940s. With the development of aviation jet engine, the heat-resisting alloy accessories with complicated structure, precious dimension and smooth surface, such as blade, blade wheel, nozzle and turbocharger etc were widely needed. Because the heat-resisting alloy material is so hard to be machined and the structure of the accessory is so complicated that it can not be easily manufactured by other production method. Thereupon, the investment casting was widely applied to shaping alloys.

　　With the advancement of cast material and technology, the modern casting has been rapidly developed base on the ancient technique and the application field also has been expanded. Besides aviation and war industry, it is widely applied in automotives, machine tools, vessel, Internal combustion engine, gas turbine, pump and valve, telecommunication instrument, medical instrument, cutting-tool and artistic crafts.
